I know nothing about these sites to I'm curious which sites people use.

Thanks.

thanks for posting this question and for all the responses. I have checked out MySpace and Facebook and couldn't figure out why I would want to use them. I will take a look at LinkedIn to see how it compares, now that I read the replies.

My job is encouraging us to be familiar with social networking sites. I have tried Twitter and have used that for a month or so, but I find the 140 character limit too stifling. This week, I started using Facebook and really like it because it's more interactive, and I can connect with a lot of old colleagues and friends and meet new people. I know that some of those relationships are best left behind, as one poster pointed out, but I like it so far.

I use facebook to see if any of my female friends have posted provocative pictures of themselves.

Since I blog, I visit BlogCatalog a lot. It was just a directory, but this past year it has also been a social network with forums and so on.

I've also found old friends through LinkedIn, though I haven't used the site to build a professional network so far, not least because people in my field (history) are a bit old-fashioned that way.

I largely ignore Facebook and MySpace, they've been overrun by noise and commercial promotion. To stay in touch with people, I'm on Twitter a great deal, post quite a lot of images to Flickr, and professionally, I use LinkedIn, but not nearly as actively as some friends. Twitter is handy, there are clients for it on everything from the web to Mac to Blackberry and can be used from any cell phone that can send a text message.
