One of the restaurants reviewed on today's "Food with Tim Carman" segment on Metro Connection is an Ethiopian restaurant on 9th Street, NW, Queen Makeda. Tim's review sounds promising, but I'd like to know what Ethiopian restaurants you would recommend.

(Oh, and for the record, my two most favorites no longer exist: Addis Ababa in Adams Morgan closed about a year or so ago, and Fasika's -- also in Adams Morgan -- shut down after a fire...and since reopened as Gran Central). So, now I tend to go to Meskerem (yes, also in Adams Morgan).
I like Meskerem. But I find that too often Ethiopian food hits my belly very heavily.

That said, I love any culinary tradition that carves out a spot for vegetarians.
I know what you mean -- I think it's the bread. Mmm...injera!

FYI, I don't know if you heard the MC segment I mentioned above, but if you're looking for vegetarian friendly, apparently Queen Makeda is extra-friendly for vegans.
I'd like David Furst to do a feature on why there are so few decent INDIAN restaurants in the District at affordable prices.
Agreed. The Indian food here is sorely lacking -- although I've had good experiences with Haandi in Bethesda. As for Ethiopian food, I have to admit I haven't yet figured out how to tell good Ethiopian food from bad, as it's all still pretty new to me.
Jason -- I've always been partial to Dukem on U St. NW. I know that's a very predictable suggestion. But I think that restaurant gets so much ink for a reason -- it's just really good at what it does.

Thanks for the tip! Dukem is on my list of places to check out...as is another a few doors down from there, Madjet. (Not sure if that's the correct spelling...)
There is one called Addis Ababa in Silver Spring - I think on Fenton. We haven't tried it yet but have been meaning to.
I'm partial to Langano in Silver Spring: the place is sort of a hole-in-the-wall, but the food is good.
There is a very good one on Columbia Pike in Arlignton, can't recall the name (labella something I think). Where the old Cocoas Casa Mia was. It is decent Italian food that you can't find here.
