Air time is at a premium. I recall the days before NPR accepted ads, or sponsorships (to avoid a bad word). The compulsory repetition of "88-5" after "WAMU" is a turn-off. Do people really forget where the station is on the dial?

Please stop the "WAMU Eighty-Eight Five" branding, just saying "WAMU" will do nicely. This rule is so strictly enforced that it gets in the way sometimes, like when they advertise the "WAMU Eighty-Eight Five Day Sponsorship." It's a one-day sponsorship, but a listener hears "five-day sponsorship." This was adopted a couple of years ago, clearly it is to boost the Arbitron numbers, and it has been like nails down a chalkboard for me ever since. If I wanted to listen to Clear Channel-style self-promotion, I'd change the station.
Actually forget the WAMU, the call letters get me nothing, the 88.5 gets me WAMU.
Hello,

I agree that constant repeating of the actual dial # can be disappointing but I must admit that a co-worker ask me for the Dial # and I actually had to wait most of the day to hear them again.
We know this can be annoying to you loyal and knowledgeable supporters of the station, but the reality is most people DO forget who they're listening to and where they are on the dial.

Arbitron results have consistently shown total confusion among radio listeners between stations, what they do on the air, and what their dial numbers are.

So we beg for your indulgence, because the branding folks say its best if we identify ourselves consistently and only one way. The more people know who we are and where to find us, the more listeners we will have, the more they will become members and contribute, and the more dollars we'll have to invest in programming.

Okay, I can live with the repetition for the sake of "branding."

Besides, what's REALLY annoying is call-in shows where every caller is allowed to ask the host and panelists how they are. How are they? They're fine! (as they've already said 20 times). And why do they thank the host for taking their call? The host had nothing to do with it. They should thank the screener and not use air time.
Can't screeners tell people to just launch into their question and stop tormenting the rest of us?
I say we end all call in shows!!!!
