The Conversation

Washington may not be known as one of the great deli-and-sub-shop cities. But there are some high quality options scattered around the region. Plus, there's the new Philadelphia-style Italian deli, "Taylor Gourmet" on H street, Northeast. And the word is that the hoagies at Taylor Gourmet are worthy of the Philly tradition. This Friday (April 10th) on Metro Connection, Washington City Paper food writer Tim Carman joins us to talk about Taylor Gourmet - and to steer us to some of the best sandwich shops in the region.

Best kosher deli? Best Italian? The ultimate sandwich?

So many subs... so little time. And there's no way Tim will have time to mention everything. So let us know about your favorite delis and sandwich shops... and after the segment airs tell us what we missed!

"I was referring to the vocal piece that closed the deli/sandwich shop part of this morning's show this morning."

Ah! I should have known. That was The Kinks... and a song called "Maximum Consumption" from the 1972 album "Everybody's In Showbiz."

"I'll have some clam chowder followed by beef steak on rye,
Pumpkin pie whipped cream and coffee.
I wanna green salad on the side - don't forget the french fries,
pizza pie, garlic and anchovy..."

Looks like we were in legends-of-the-60's mode near the end of the show today.
Thanks so much for info on both pieces, which I have now bought. Keep up the great work.
Oh, don't get me started on Tom Waits... this discussion might never end! Another great food song.
I'd like to second So's Your Mom.
