Sometimes though, Animal Control wants to see the dog tags.
One way to get around the noise issue is to get a webbed collar with the dog's name and phone number on it. I believe you can get them at LL Bean. This also helps identify the phone number easily. Sometimes when the tags get old it is hard to read...

Yes, ours have three varied size tags too!
Found a place on line called "Sit Stay" I can put all three tags into the one pouch, sealed with velcro.

GREAT question. I don't know the answer but I will check back and be interested if any studies have been done on the subject.

are dogs frustrated by the clink of thier tags on their collars while hunting/stalking
their hearng is so acute, tags must be torture, especially for little terriers.
I have tag covers for our guys for this reason. Wonder if his is valid in dog ...
