Hi John! We have indeed had problems transmitting WTMD . . . something we're dealing with in-house - but it's the "fear factor" in my "Good Morning" that makes solving this problem even more urgent ;-) As always, love your posts - cheers Karen Mun...

We have a chocolate lab who's about 5 years old and she loves the water. We have some lake property about two hours away, and when we take her, she fusses inconsolably for most of the drive, especially when we stop. When she sees the water and kno...

Update: Paul Biba, the Kindle 2 owner mentioned earlier, was able to find The Solomon Scandals listed via his actual Kindle. You might try again. Paul did have a problem with the cover showing up, and I've alerted Twilight Times Books. Meanwhile, if you're the same Karen Munson who wrote the City Paper, the best of luck locating Scandals and the others! - DR

Hi, Karen. Based on a little Googling, I'll guess that you're the same Karen Munson who wrote the City Paper to say you enjoyed e-books. If not--or else for other reasons--feel free to zap this note. If so, congratulations on your new Kindle 2.

You mentioned you had trouble buying most of the books mentioned, and as author of one of them, The Solomon Scandals, the D.C. newspaper novel published by Twilight Times Books, perhaps I can be helpful. Here is the Kindle page to go to:

http://www.amazon.com/The-Solomon-Scandals/dp/B001T4YANY/ref=kinw_dp_ke?ie=UTF8&qid=1235035990&sr=8-1

(Within Firefox or another browser, please type the above as one line.)

If you follow through at the Kindle Store and still have problems, please reach me at dr@teleread.org or 703-370-6540. Same for other e-book fans. I also hope that people will encourage old-fashioned book stores to stock Scandals. At least one local library system, Fairfax County, is about to offer the trade paperback edition.

Meanwhile, to return to your situation, I'm disappointed if Amazon won't let you buy directly through the K machine itself by keying in the title. Is that what you tried to do? I'll check with Twilight Times Books to see if Amazon can't correct this possible problem.

I myself have just enjoyed and finished Philip Roth's Indignation on my iPod Touch, using the Kindle Store's "send" feature. I live in an apartment complex with long, long halls and actually read Indignation while on exercise walks inside.

By the way, people interested in nonKindle e-book editions of Scandals or in the trade paperback will see a buying-information link on the right side of the page at solomonscandals.com. Just scroll down a bit.

Meanwhile, major kudos to the City Paper. This just might be the first time that a pulped-wood newspaper has seriously reviewed several local e-book writers at once. I loved the way Ted Scheinman zeroed in on The Solomon Scandals’ "preoccupation with obsolescence"—which, incidentally, is one of the banes of the e-book world, when it comes to issues such as ephemeral formats and DRM. I just wish that more of the Kojo show on e-books had discussed the harm resulting from "protection." The FTC is holding hearings on the topic.

I run TeleRead.org, one of the more popular e-book issues sites, which deals with DRM and similar matters; and I hope you'll drop by. My co-editor is a gung-ho Kindle owner named Paul Biba. Another useful site is MobileRead.com. Steve Jordan writes for both, and Paul and I are always looking for additional contributors who love E.

Happy e-reading (and the paper kind, too!),
David Rothman, Alexandria
Author of The Solomon Scandals

P.S. I tried to post a different version of this on the City Paper site, but so far the comment hasn't gone through.

P.P.S. For those who missed the excellent City Paper piece on e-books, the address is http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/display.php?id=36918
