Hi, Kathy. You're right. Eudora Welty is a gem, and her writing is pure poetry without the rhyme. I realize that my own book title, "Finding My Voice,' was almost identical to her last lecture, "Finding A Voice." But of course, that's what we all strive to do, whether we're writers or not. I met her only once, and was so taken by a dual impression of strength and fragility. She was a perfectly lovely woman.

So glad you liked the show.

Diane, thank you for the show today on Eudora Welty. It was wonderful. She has been one of my favorite authors for many years.

Hi, Heather,

No, I must say, I do not plan to have Ralph Nader on the show. I think the race is already in full swing between two major candidates, and while individuals may wish to ask him questions, I think they'll have an opportunity to do that without my providing him with a forum.

best.

Hello, again, Chinkle. I have good insights because the producers have prepared me. This morning's first hour was booked, researched, and prepared by Sandra Pinkard. The second hour, on Eudora Welty, was booked, researched, and prepared by Jonathan Smith. Without the work of those producers, the show wouldn't -- couldn't -- be what it is. Whatever's in the news is what I'm interested in. I look forward to speaking with the next President of the United States, whoever that may be.

Best.

Hi Diane-

Do you plan to have Ralph Nader on the show, or do you think he won't be much of a factor this year? I'll bet callers would like a chance to ask him questions!

You always seem to have such good insight on the various topics that you discuss on your show. Is there a topic that you're looking forward to covering that you haven't yet had the opportunity to discuss? What topics move you most?

Hi, Chinkle,

It's all a balancing act. The producers call many, many people before selecting the ones to be on the show. Callers are always important, and I read what they want to talk about (I see about five words indicating their comments) and then try to work them in where appropriate. I like to give callers as much of a chance as possible. But it's always a matter of time. I hope you were enlightened as much as I was by the whole program, and you can bet we'll do more about cyber-security!

best.

Hi, there, James. Be sure to tune in on Friday for the NewsRoundup, when I'm sure we'll be talking about all of your concerns.

best.

You know, Andre, I started out at age 37 as a volunteer, and learned radio (which I'd been listening to all my life) as an apprentice. Age and opportunity are always issues. Tell her to follow her heart and do what means the most to her. I'm so saddened by the loss of Tim Russert. My heart goes out to his wife and son. But I have no interest in NBC's Meet The Press for myself. I'm not a television journalist, and am more than delighted to simply continue my radio broadcast career for as long as my voice holds out.

Thanks for your interest. diane
